Children receive message in a different way. Adults and children alike may speak the same language yet they children have their interpretation of the message once it gets across them. A good thing may become bad for them and the bad thing may be reversed likewise. Thus when teaching about Christianity and about God to them, it is best to show them illustrations or give simple examples where they can clearly imagine what you tell them. Children work best in imagination.
