My son Sandy kept complaining that he had no money but also resisted my efforts to help.  He insisted he was working with a budget.  But, not only was he usually broke, but his truck was on its last legs. The day eventually came when he needed to finance a new vehicle, and he asked my advice.  I told him to start with a Free Credit Score.  Once he found that he actually had a decent score, he budgeted, got his truck, and negotiated payments he could afford.  Now that he has learned a little about debt management, he really does have a working budget.
